Lilak started with a question most people stop themselves from asking
My name is Pratik. A few years ago, I was standing in front of my wardrobe getting ready for work and I realised something that had probably been true for a long time — everything in it looked the same as everything in everyone else's wardrobe. Black. White. Navy. Generic graphics on cotton that had been washed twice and already started to feel like it was giving up.
I went looking for something different. Something that felt genuinely premium against the skin without the brand name doing all the work. Something that carried a design from India's own visual traditions rather than borrowed aesthetics from European streetwear. And something at a price that didn't require justification. I couldn't find it. Not in one place. Not at the quality I was looking for. So I decided to build it — and Lilak was the answer.
Why Supima. Why Indian design. Why now
Supima cotton accounts for less than 1% of the world's cotton production. It's grown exclusively in the United States under a certified supply chain, and its extra-long staple fibre produces a fabric that's measurably softer, stronger, and more colour-retentive than standard cotton. It doesn't just feel better on day one — it gets better with every wash.
We pair it with designs drawn from India's oldest visual traditions. Warli storytelling from Maharashtra. Mughal lattice from the monuments of Agra and Delhi. Pichwai peacocks from the temples of Nathdwara. Bharatanatyam from the classical stages of Tamil Nadu. These are not decorative choices. They are considered references to craft traditions that have endured for centuries. We believe they belong on everyday clothing — not just in museums and tourist shops.
What we're building toward
Lilak today is t-shirts. Lilak in five years is India's Supima brand. Every product built on the same conviction: the fabric earns its place, the design means something, the price tells the truth.
